In the end, it was all a big misunderstanding.

The whole premise of this case seems weird. Apparently the teacher and Date had a good relationship, enough that Date was sleeping at her house. You would think that she would reach out, given that he was a cop, to make sure if he was okay. Instead, she kills herself?

i think the subtitles are messing things up. she probably saw on the news (or something) that Date had passed away and hung herself out of despair.

the family of a deceased cop is informed first of all before any names or simple notices such as: 'an officer died last night after being hit by a car', are released by the press. so if Date's family was informed the evening he died, the next day's newspapers/TV news that morning or afternoon broadcasts could have released his name.

remember, there's an engagement ring in Date's notebook that Takagi has been carrying for over a year. since Takagi was un-aware of the teacher's relationship (or even her first or last name) with his best buddy and mentoring officer (that means Date was Takagi's rookie year, immediate supervisor, before Satou-chan) Date was keeping the entire relationship secret from the entire police-force for some reason.

therefore, the teacher could NOT have been officially informed of Date's death by the police. who could have helped her through her grief. so, when she did hear of it the shock was too much for her and she killed herself.

I speak Japanese and I attest to what the person before me said, the reason for date's girlfriend to commit suicide was that she learned of his death

Just wanted to confirm Date was actually dead.
